DIVISIONS OF PLAY
Eastern offers divisions of play ranging from Wee Ball to our Major Division. Division placement is automatically determined in the registration process based on your child's league age. See Division Information for further details on our league divisions.
LITTLE LEAGUE AGE
Your child's league age is their age on August 31st of the current year. See Little League’s League Age Determination tool to confirm your child’s league age.
TRYOUTS/EVALUATIONS
All players new to the Rookie Division must attend evaluations, and all players new to the Minors or Majors Divisions must attend a tryout. All players will be placed on a team. Evaluations and tryouts will involve running, fielding, catching, throwing and batting. Each player should bring a glove, bat and batting helmet. Only USA Baseball bats are permitted. See Little League's Bat Resource page for more information. Evaluations and tryouts are held on indoor turf fields, so turf shoes, plastic sole cleats or tennis shoes are acceptable. See Tryouts/Evaluations for additional details on Rookie evaluations and Minors/Majors tryouts.
FRIEND REQUESTS
Team requests can be submitted during registration for our Wee Ball and Tee Ball Divisions, but we cannot guarantee that all requests will be accommodated. Requests are prioritized in the order they are received. 6 year-olds returning for their second Spring season of Tee Ball must remain on their team from the prior Spring season. Friend requests are not honored in our Rookie, Minor or Major Divisions.
UNIFORMS/EQUIPMENT
All players will need a baseball glove and baseball shoes (plastic sole cleats). Many players prefer to use their own baseball bat and helmet, although the individual teams have extras available that the players may also use. Many players also like to have an equipment bag to carry their belongings, but this is not required. All players will need to purchase their own baseball pants, socks and belt, which are typically color-coordinated with the team jersey color. Your coach will confirm the color needed. The league will provide the jersey and hat for all players. The league highly recommends the use of protective cups and heart guards. Protective cups are required for any player playing the catcher position. Parents may also see the benefit of utilizing a mouth guard piece.
GAME AND PRACTICE SCHEDULES
Eastern's game and practice schedules won't be published until after registration closes and team formation is complete. The Spring season generally begins in March and ends in mid-June. See our Division Information for typical practice and game schedules for your child's division.
FIELD LOCATIONS
Eastern games are played at the Upper and Lower Fields at both Ecton Park and Lansdowne Merrick Park. See Field Locations for more information. Eastern practices are held at Ecton and Lansdowne Merrick Parks, as well as a variety of other fields around Lexington.
VOLUNTEERING
Eastern has a variety of volunteer opportunities available. See Volunteer Information for further details. Volunteers within our league (managers, coaches, members of the Board of Directors, and other persons, volunteer or hired workers who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to or contact with players or teams), MUST submit annually a Little League Volunteer Application, which can be completed during player registration or through your user account page after registration.
FUNDRAISING
Registration fees alone do not cover the expense of uniforms, equipment, insurance, umpires, field maintenance, and other costs. Additionally, we provide scholarships to families with a financial hardship so that no child is denied the opportunity to play the game they love. In the past, we have asked families to sell value cards or participate in other fundraisers to help cover our costs. In lieu of selling value cards, each registered player purchases an Eastern Little League Spirit Pack ($40 each) filled with Eastern gear and coupons to various businesses. Additionally, the League gets the opportunity to participate in Eastern Little Little Night at a Lexington Legends game. All teams are announced and get to go out on the field together prior to the game. We ask each family to purchase four tickets ($12 each), a portion of which goes back to the League.
